Rally to Bring back Abyan. Close the camps, End the war on refugee women

5-6pm this Friday 23 October, Sydney Town Hall

Last Friday, Abyan, the 23 year old Somali victim of rape on Nauru, was seized from Villawood and forced back to the island prison of Nauru. Ayban received no counselling and did not get access to the termination she requested.

Turnbull’s Immigration Minister, Peter Dutton, claims she did not want to proceed with the termination. But both her lawyer and advocates have spoken to her to confirm this is not true.

Abyan is just one of many cases of sexual abuse and assault on Nauru. Turnbull’s Immigration Minister, Peter Dutton, says that pregnant women appealing for help are blackmailers. He says he will not allow pregnant asylum seekers and refugees to be brought from Nauru to Australia to give birth safely in Australia. But rates of infant mortality are 40 times higher, and Nauru lacks medical facilities to deal with any major complications. Join our rally to demand the government bring Abyan back to Australia and close Nauru and all the detention centres.
