Thanks to everyone who made it to the World Refugee Day rally on Sunday 16 June. There were about 400 or 500 in attendance, a really determined crowd in the face of the worsening demonisation of refugees we are seeing in the lead up to the election.
There are some good photos from the event here and here. There were also rallies on the day in Perth and Melbourne, reported here.
Speakers included:
Les Murray (SBS’s ‘Mr Football’)
Sarah Hanson-Young (Greens Senator)
Ian Rintoul (Refugee Action Coalition)
Hayley Byrnes (Former Manus Island detention centre worker)
