Media Release March 11, 2010 Refugee advocates and Tamil community representatives today (Thursday) delivered a letter to the Sydney Indonesian consulate to be delivered to Indonesian President Yudhoyono requesting that he personally intervene to break the impasse over the Tamil asylum boat at Merak.
Media release March 11 The Refugee Action Coalition has called for the government to drop the charges against the 2 Afghan and 9 Tamil asylum seekers charged with riot, assault and carrying weapons. The 11 detainees were charged following a so-called riot in the Christmas Island detention center last November.
Media Release March 8 “The Merak refugees and the Indonesian Solution, not people smuggling, should be at the top of the agenda for discussions between the Australian government and Indonesian President Yudhoyono,” said Ian Rintoul, spokesperson for the Refugee Action Coalition.
